When pulling the trigger this part is hit by the hammer and will transfer its energy to the firing pin.
The firing pin extension is an internal part in the firing pin carrier and is held in place by the firing pin extension retainer.
When you replace the firing pin extension we advise to replace the firing pin as well, both parts are made from a high quality steel and heat treated such that it will take the blow from the hammer over and over again without breaking or bending.
